Every year on March 20, we observe World Oral Health Day. It is an international event with the goal of assisting in lessening the burden of oral illnesses, which have an impact on economies, health systems, and individuals. This day was first celebrated in 2007. The purpose of this day is to increase public awareness of the value of maintaining good dental health. Although they are frequently disregarded, oral disorders rank among the world’s most serious health issues in many regions. However, with the correct medical support, the majority of dental problems may be avoided and cured. World Oral Health Day aims to promote excellent oral health for everyone by focusing on people, schools, educational institutions, youth, and policymakers.
The theme for Oral Health Day 2024 is ‘A happy mouth is a happy body.’Â
According to the World Health Organisation, “Globally, oral diseases affect an estimated 3.5 billion people worldwide. Between 1990 and 2019, estimated case numbers of oral diseases increased by more than 1 billion, which translates to a 50% increase, higher than the population increase of about 45% in the same period.”
The majority of risk factors for oral disorders, such as excessive sugar intake, cigarette use, poor dental hygiene, alcohol usage, and more, are changeable. Thus, it may be quite beneficial to encourage people to take care of their dental health.
Tips To Take Care Of Oral Health
- Brush your teeth two times a day to help get rid of bacteria. Additionally, brush all surfaces of your teeth for at least two minutes each time while using fluoride toothpaste.
- Serious dental problems can be avoided with routine dental examinations. Regular clean-ups can also be ensured by following this simple practice.
- Just as crucial as brushing is flossing. Food fragments that the toothbrush bristles might not be able to reach between teeth can be removed by flossing.
- Regular use of mouthwash promotes greater dental health. Using mouthwash can help prevent cavities, refresh breath, and get rid of bacteria.
- Since plaque can accumulate on the tongue as well, cleaning the tongue is essential for maintaining dental health.
