Bhubaneswar: Manipal Hospital Bhubaneswar has strengthened its advanced diagnostic services with the introduction of the Manipal Comprehensive Scanning Facility, featuring an advanced PET/CT facility to support cancer diagnosis, treatment planning and monitoring.
The facility was formally recognised in the presence of Mr Partha Das, Chief People Officer, Manipal Hospitals, and Dr Saktimaya Mohapatra, Cluster Director, South East, Manipal Hospital Bhubaneswar, along with senior management, doctors and hospital staff.
The new PET/CT facility is expected to enhance access to advanced cancer imaging for patients across Odisha. PET/CT combines two imaging techniques in a single examination. While PET provides information about the functioning and metabolic activity of tissues, CT produces detailed images of the body’s internal structures. Together, the scans provide doctors with a more comprehensive understanding of abnormal areas and the extent of disease.
The facility will support clinicians in detecting and assessing abnormalities, evaluating the spread of cancer and monitoring changes during treatment. It is expected to aid clinical decision-making at different stages of cancer care.

Dr Saktimaya Mohapatra, Cluster Director, South East, Manipal Hospital Bhubaneswar, said, “PET/CT is particularly useful in cancer care because it can show both the structure of an organ and changes in how tissues are functioning. It can support doctors in detecting abnormal areas, assessing the extent of disease and monitoring changes during treatment. Patients in Odisha can now access advanced PET/CT imaging without necessarily having to travel outside the state.”
Alongside the scanning facility, Manipal Hospital Bhubaneswar has also introduced new OPD services, expanding access to specialist consultations and healthcare services. The initiative is aimed at enabling patients to access consultations, investigations and further treatment under one roof.
With the addition of advanced PET/CT imaging and expanded OPD services, Manipal Hospital Bhubaneswar aims to strengthen the availability of specialised diagnostic and clinical care in Odisha, reducing the need for patients to travel outside the state for advanced investigations and consultations.
