Bhubaneswar: As orthopaedic healthcare continues to evolve with advancements in technology, surgical techniques and preventive care, leading experts deliberated on the future of joint and spine treatment at ‘Swasthya Charcha’, a health discussion conclave organised by Swasthya Sambad and Kanak News in association with Manipal Hospital, Bhubaneswar.
The first panel discussion of the conclave centred on “The Future of Joint & Spine Treatment: From Prevention to Replacement, From Sports Medicine to Modern Surgeries”, bringing together eminent specialists to discuss the changing landscape of orthopaedic care.
The panel featured Dr. Sunil Kumar Dash, Senior Consultant & Director – Orthopaedics; Dr. Sarthak Patnaik, Senior Consultant – Orthopaedics, Arthroscopy & Sports Injury; Dr. Kishore Kumar Panda, Consultant – Orthopaedics; Dr. Harekrushna Sahu, Consultant – Orthopaedics & Spine Surgery; and Dr. Kasinath Swain, Consultant – Orthopaedics & Spine Surgery.
A major highlight of the conclave was the presentation of the Centre of Excellence in Orthopaedics, Joint Replacement & Sports Medicine award to Manipal Hospital, Bhubaneswar, recognising its expertise and comprehensive approach to advanced musculoskeletal care.

The panel explored the changing approach to orthopaedic treatment, emphasising that effective joint and spine care begins long before surgery. Prevention, early diagnosis, lifestyle modification, appropriate physical activity and timely intervention can play a crucial role in maintaining mobility and preventing conditions from progressing.
With joint problems increasingly affecting people across different age groups, the experts discussed how modern medicine is transforming the journey from conservative treatment to joint replacement. Advances in replacement procedures are enabling patients with severely damaged joints to regain mobility and return to their everyday lives with improved functionality.
The discussion also highlighted the expanding role of sports medicine and arthroscopy. As more people participate in professional sports, fitness and recreational physical activities, specialised management of sports injuries has become increasingly important. Modern sports medicine focuses not only on treating injuries but also on injury prevention, rehabilitation and helping individuals safely return to activity.
Spine care formed another important part of the discussion. The experts highlighted the importance of accurate diagnosis and personalised treatment, particularly as back and neck problems become increasingly common. Advances in modern and minimally invasive spine procedures are creating newer treatment possibilities for patients who require surgical intervention.
The panel ultimately highlighted a fundamental shift in orthopaedic healthcare, from treating problems after they become severe to adopting a more preventive, personalised and technology-driven approach.
Through Swasthya Charcha, Swasthya Sambad and Kanak News, in association with Manipal Hospital, Bhubaneswar, brought together medical expertise and public health awareness, creating a platform to discuss how innovations in healthcare can translate into better outcomes and quality of life for patients.
