Utkal Institute of Medical Sciences & Hospital organized Utkal cancer conclave 2024 on 7th January 2024 in Bhubaneswar. The aim of the conclave was to spread awareness about Cancer.
Cancer is on rise in today’s era as about 193 lakhs of new cases of cancer detected all over the world recently and 50 % from which comes from the Asian countries. India contributes about 13 lakhs of new Cancer cases every year. Most common cancers detected are Oral Cancer, Breast Cancer, , Stomach Cancer, Colon Cancer , Gynaecological & Lung Cancer.
The cause of cancer is nothing but the drastic change of lifestyle, poor dietary habits, smoking and chewing tobacco, obesity and lack of exercise. Awareness among population as well as healthcare providers can contribute a lot to the prevention and detection at the early stage of cancer. Regular seminars, workshop and conferences in an interactive way are very important for the oncologists to keep in touch with recent knowledge of treatment. The event’s moto was to enlighten the public as well as healthcare providers about the detection and prevention of such a deadly disease.
Notably, Utkal Institute of Medical Sciences & Hospital which is based in Bhubanewar is a multidisciplinary hospital with a comprehensive cancer centre working in a great way. Utkal Cancer Conclave has been organized with this concept for the year 2024.
A total number of 200 healthcare delegates graced the event including 50 numbers of teaching faculties from the state and outside. Four eminent Oncologists of Odisha l=including Dr KB Das, Dr C R Nayak, Dr Lalatendu Sarangi and Dr P K Das were felicitated with UCC Achiever Award 2024 for their enormous contribution for the cancer care.
Utkal Hospital’s managing director Pragyan Ranjan Gharai, organizing chairman Ranjan Kumar Mohapatra. organizing secretary Sanjeeb Kumar Mishra and Utkal Institute of Medical Sciences’s dean Prafulla Kumar Das were also among the delegates who attended the event.
This conference as a whole will surely help upgrade the knowledge, skills and treatment plan for the cancer patients of the hospital as well as people of Eastern India.
