the second bone marrow (multiple myeloma) transplant was successfully done at the state’s premier super multi-specialty hospital Utkal hospital in Bhubaneswar.
The patient, a 51-year old woman was diagnosed with blood cancer. She was getting treated under HOD, Oncology Dr Ranjan Kumar Mohapatra. On the advice of Dr Mohapatra, a team of medical oncology and hematology was prepared for bone marrow transplantation in the hospital.
With the help of medical oncologists Dr Sushant Kumar Paikaray, Dr Chinmay Pani and hematologist Dr Biswajit Bhuyan, the bone marrow transplantation was successfully completed.
The patient was discharged from the hospital after 15 days and is currently healthy.
For this milestone, the chairman of Utkal hospital, Dr Aditya Samal congratulated everyone. He also said that five beds have been set up for patients of bone marrow transplant.

Notably, bone marrow is a soft tissue that contains stem cells that produce blood cells that make up the immune system.
