The American Heart Association has released new guidelines for managing high blood pressure in older adults, emphasizing a more personalized approach to treatment.

Researchers found that aggressively lowering blood pressure in those over 80 can sometimes lead to negative health outcomes, such as dizziness and falls. The new recommendations focus on gradual, individualized treatment, considering factors such as overall health, frailty, and quality of life.

Healthcare providers are encouraged to carefully monitor patients’ blood pressure and adjust medications accordingly, rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all approach.
