Skin problems in winter

Dry and flaky skin is a major problem in winter. We all know about the skin hazards we face in winter. Moisture is very important for our skin to perform well. Most of the cases are related to less moisture in our skin, which leads to other skin complications like-
• Chapped lips- Dry lips are referred to as chapped lips.
• Dry skin
• Cracked heels- When the skin around the heels becomes dry and thick, it causes splits in the skin of the heel area known as cracked heels.
• Dry skin eczema- When the skin loses moisture, it becomes dry resulting in eczema. It is dry, itchy, and bumpy.
• Psoriasis- It is a skin disease that causes a rash with itchy and scaly patches. It is mostly seen in the knees, elbows, and trunk, and scalp areas.
• Atopic dermatitis-It is a condition that causes dry, itchy, and inflamed skin. It is mostly seen in young children.
• Dandruff- They are dry, white flakes of the skin on the scalp.

Prevention

1. Apply moisturizer to provide extra moisture to your skin.
2. Apple shea butter and cocoa butter- It can be used to moisturize normal dry skin
3. Anti-inflammatory moisturizer- This is for sensitive skin and people who already have atopic dermatitis skin problems.
4. Liquid paraffin + white soft paraffin-based moisturizers – this can be used by old people and people who have complaints of excessively dry skin.
5. Drink lots of water to retain moisture in the body and skin.
6. No hot water bath- Hot water can make your skin even drier so; better to take bath in water which is maintaining room temperature.
7. Do not use excessive soap
8. Emollients- These are moisturizing treatments that are applied directly to the skin to soothe and hydrate it. It covers the skin with a protective layer to trap moisture.

With all the above preventive steps, one can get beautiful, soft, supple, and glowing skin even in winter.
