Utkal Hospital in Bhubaneswar has recently achieved a historic milestone in the field of organ transplantation in Odisha by completing its first cadaveric liver transplant. The transplant was successfully performed on April 17th.

It saw a cadaveric liver extracted from IMS & SUM Hospital and swiftly transported to Utkal Hospital for transplantation.

The surgery, which lasted for several hours, was led by a major team of esteemed consultants including senior consultant Dr. Satya Prakash Ray Choudhury , Dr. Salil Kumar Parida (HPB, GI Surgery & Liver Transplant), Director of Liver Transplant and Hepatoboliary Surgery Dr P. Balachandran Menon and Senior Consultant, Liver Transplant Anesthesia of AIG Hospital Dr. Shakti Swaroop.

“This achievement signifies a monumental step forward in our commitment to providing cutting-edge medical care to our patients, “This is truly inspirational for cadaveric organ donation, in which one person can save and live in many lives even after death” remarked Dr Satya Prakash Ray Choudhury of Utkal Hospital.

Notably, the patient suffering from liver cirrhosis, is currently recovering well under the vigilant care of the medical team at Utkal Hospital.

Moreover, this transformative surgery was made possible through the invaluable assistance of skilled surgeons from AIG Hospital, Hyderabad, highlighting the collaborative efforts aimed at advancing healthcare delivery in the region.
