Heel pain

Heel pain is a common foot issue associated with pain in the foot area.
It could have many causes like-

Symptoms

  • Pain under the foot, towards the front of the heel.
  • The pain is moderate in the beginning but, gradually becomes severe.
  •  Pain may be even more severe, however, if there is a tear.

Cause

  1.   Pain after waking up
  2.  Sitting for a longer duration and experience pain while getting up.
  3.  Plantar fascia- It is the most common reason for heel pain. Plantar fascia maintains the arch of leg and in some cases it gets
    torn and gradually causes pain called plantar fasciitis.
  4. Trauma
  5. Injury
  6.  Obesity
  7.  Extra bone growth
  8.  Flat foot- People with flat foot doesn’t have a visible arch in the foot. It can cause pain and sometimes it may affect walking also.
  9. Reactive arthritis
  10. Bone tumor
  11. Rheumatoid arthritis
  12. Stress fractures
  13. Tarsal tunnel syndrome
  14. Poor posture while walking
  15. Improper running posture
  16. Soft tissue mass
  17. Bruise in the bone
  18. Having stiff calf muscles.
  19. Excessive running
  20. Working in standing position for long hours.

Prevention

  • Warm up before any outdoor sports activity.
  •  Proper fit shoes
  • After standing for long time, give some rest to your feet
  • A proportionate body weight
  • Wearing shoes on hard ground
  • Wearing supportive shoes

Exercises that can help

  • Calf rise while standing
  • Rolling stretch
  • Band assisted ankle flexion

Treatment

1. In most of the cases it is self limiting
2. Physiotherapy
3. Plantar fascia stretching exercise
4. Ball exercise
5. Pain relieving medicine
6. Supportive shoe
7. Properly fitting shoe
8. Customized Shoe to maintain the arch of flat foot
9. USG guided injections
10. PRP treatment

11. Radiofrequency ablation

12. Stretching exercise of the calf muscles

Some other home remedies for this-

  • Good footwear to support the foot
  • Applying ice pack
  • Taking rest

No surgical treatment for this.
