All men across the world should undergo an annual screening test to assess their present physical, mental and medical health. It will help them for a healthy lifestyle, whom to contact for specific illnesses, screen for medical complications and assessment of any future risk. Some compulsory tests to be be done after 40 years of age are-
1. Annual screening tests for Blood pressure-
– The normal blood pressure reading for adults is 120/80. One must undergo this test at least a year to check whether his blood pressure levels are within this range or not. If the top blood pressure number is more than 129 or the bottom number is more than 89 then one should immediately contact a doctor to start medications. Because, from 130/90 onwards, it is considered as stage I hypertension or high blood pressure. Similarly, if the range has decreased to some extent, will be considered as low blood pressure. To asses this, one annual blood pressure check up is a must and consult your doctor.
2. Annual screening test for Cholesterol
– Cholesterol test should be done at least once a year to identify if at all any risk factors associated with coronary heart diseases.
3. Annual screening test for Colorectal cancer
– For this, a stool based test should be done every year. If found any risk by your doctor, then he/ she may will suggest you to go for a colonoscopy to get a more clear picture.
4. Dental examination
– Visit a dentist once or twice a year to evaluate about your oral health.
5. Diabetes
– This is a compulsory test for obese men who are above 40. Other men above 40 also must do both the diabetes blood test at least once a year- Fasting and Post prandial blood tests to be done before and after having food respectively.
6. Eye check up-
It also a compulsory test mostly done to rule out the danger of glaucoma and retina issues.
7. Immunizations
– Flu, tetanus and any other time appropriative preventive immunizations are must in correct time.
8. Osteoporosis
– With age our bones and cartilages becomes weaker. So, this test is to check the bone health and people who are already experiencing some pain in their joints/ low body weight people/ men with osteoporosis family history/ hip fracture/smoking/ heavy alcohol use are more risk prone to osteoporosis.
9. Prostate cancer
– PSA
10.Testicular exam
– It is also recommended to do self examinations for this.
