Bhubaneswar, March 6: Utkal Hospital organised an organ donation awareness programme at its premises to spread awareness about the importance of organ donation, clear common misconceptions and encourage people to come forward for this noble cause. The event was held under the theme “Gift Life – Spread Hope.”
The programme began with the traditional lighting of the ceremonial lamp. Among those present were Utkal Hospital Chairman Dr Aditya Kumar Samal, Managing Director Dr Pragnan Ranjan Ghadei, Director–Medical Services Dr Ranjan Kumar Mohapatra, Dean-cum-Director (Academics) Prof (Dr) Prafulla Kumar Das, CEO B K Subodh Singh, COO Suresh Narayan and Medical Superintendent Dr Rashmi Ranjan Guru.
Also present were Dr Umakanta Satpathy, Nodal Officer of SOTTO, Joint Director Dr Bibhuti Bhusan Nayak, Dr Pravas Acharya and other personalities associated with organ donation initiatives. Odisha Chief Information Commissioner Manoj Kumar Parida attended the programme as the chief guest, while senior journalist Biren Das was also present.
During the event, students and volunteers delivered an awareness presentation explaining the importance of organ donation, eligibility criteria, the donation process and common myths surrounding it. Senior medical experts also spoke about the urgent need for organ donation and its significance in saving lives.
A real-life experience shared by an organ recipient or donor family moved the audience, highlighting the life-changing impact of organ donation. An interactive question-and-answer session was also held with the participants.
The programme concluded with a pledge by the attendees to support organ donation. Through this initiative, Utkal Hospital appealed to citizens to come forward and pledge for organ donation, which can give a new lease of life to many patients in need.
