India is expanding access to life-saving dialysis treatment as part of its public healthcare initiatives, aiming to support thousands of patients suffering from advanced kidney disease. Health officials say the move is intended to address the growing burden of Chronic Kidney Disease across the country.

Under government-supported programs such as Pradhan Mantri National Dialysis Programme, dialysis services are being made available in district hospitals to ensure patients in smaller towns and rural areas can access treatment without traveling to major cities.

Kidney specialists say dialysis demand has increased significantly in recent years due to rising cases of Diabetes and Hypertension, the two leading causes of kidney failure in India.

Health experts emphasize that while dialysis expansion is crucial, early detection and prevention remain key to reducing the long-term burden of kidney disease.
