In a powerful tribute to National Cancer Survivors Month, Apollo Cancer Centre, Bhubaneswar, has launched CanWin an inclusive cancer support group designed to uplift individuals at every stage of their cancer journey. More than a support system, CanWin is a heartfelt movement anchored in the belief that “shared strength can change lives.”
The name CanWin symbolizes resilience and triumph, CAN reflects strength in adversity, while WIN signifies victory, courage, and determination. This brand-agnostic platform welcomes everyone—patients, survivors, caregivers, oncologists, psycho-oncologists, and volunteers—into a compassionate circle of healing, learning, and togetherness.
The initiative’s inaugural event, Stories from the Stage, was a moving storytelling session where cancer survivors shared deeply personal journeys of struggle, strength, and survival. Their stories served as emotional anchors for others navigating similar battles.
Dr. Alok Srivastava, Chief Operating Officer & Director of Medical Services at Apollo Cancer Centres, remarked, “Healing transcends medicine. With CanWin, we’re building a community where courage echoes, stories heal, and no voice goes unheard.”
A highlight of the event was the story of a Hodgkin lymphoma survivor, recounted by Dr. Samarendra Dash, Consultant – Radiation Oncologist. The survivor faced multiple relapses, endured five chemotherapy regimens, a bone marrow transplant, and 35 radiation sessions—leaving behind a cross-shaped scar and a legacy of strength. Now thriving as a Talent and OD Specialist, he continues to challenge cancer stigma and inspire others.
Dr. Sandeep Mujumder highlighted the empowering impact of advanced treatments like proton therapy, not just for patients but their families. “Hope and innovation go hand in hand,” he said.
Dr. Prashant Ch. Dash emphasized empathy in cancer care. “With CanWin, storytelling becomes therapy—each narrative lights a way forward,” he noted.
Dr. Pritish Chandra Patra added, “These stories give meaning to pain. Survivors aren’t just retelling their experiences—they are reshaping what it means to live beyond cancer.”
Doctors at the event reiterated the importance of early detection and modern treatment in improving survival rates. They praised CanWin for its role in addressing emotional wellbeing, often overlooked in traditional care models.
Through regular storytelling sessions, workshops, expert Q\&As, and volunteer initiatives, CanWin aims to create a vibrant support ecosystem rooted in empathy, resilience, and community—ensuring no one walks the cancer journey alone.
